Welcome to the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center
The Museum was established as a 1987 Bonitafest event and was orginally located in a storefront along Bonita Road.  In 1992, through the generosity of the Bonita-Sunnyside Fire Protection District, the Museum moved into the old fire house located at 4035 Bonita Road.  In 2006, thanks to the County of San Diego and the Bonita community, the Museum moved to its permanent location at 4355 Bonita Road, Bonita, CA 91902.

The Bonnie Brae Society
Deferred Giving Society of the
Bonita Museum and Cultural Center

The Bonnie Brae Society honors individuals who have made an estate gift to benefit the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center.  These gifts provide a long-term financial resource to continue the Museum’s mission to serve the public by preserving local culture, by bringing art and people together, and by acting as the host of a variety of local events.

In recognition of Hiram Higgins' forward thinking vision of the Sweetwater Valley, the Legacy Society is named for his pioneering home and farm, which he entitled Bonnie Brae in honor of his Scottish heritage.  Out of the nearly barren hills of the Sweetwater Valley, he created an exquisite landscape out of the treeless wilderness.  He created a new variety of lemon, ideally designed to grow locally and named that lemon after his farm, and soon the Bonnie Brae lemon became a best seller.

Bonnie Brae Society donors may designate an estate gift to the Museum through various methods: bequests, life income gifts, trusts, insurance policies, IRA’s, real estate or other gift arrangements.  Our Society friends are honored each year at a special event where they enjoy a spirited gathering of steadfast Museum supporters.  They also receive special invitations during the year, as well as recognition in the Museum’s annual report and a certificate of membership.

The only requirement for you to become a part of the Bonnie Brae Society is to notify the Museum when it is named in your will, trust, or is a beneficiary of your insurance policy or retirement plan. If you have already included the Bonita Museum and Cultural Center in your estate plans, we would appreciate hearing from you. You can be listed with other Bonnie Brae Society members in Museum publications, or you may wish to remain anonymous. Please contact us at 619-267-5141 to discuss any aspect of your future gift or to request information.
